Katie's mother and father are very different characters. Katie's mother is very shy and fragile while her father is strong and more outgoing. I think that Katie is closest to her father because her father does more things with her. Her mother is the one who makes many rules and she seems more solitary. Her dad plays with Katie and Lynn more than her mother. Katie also has fun with punching her father in the stomach while she cant do that to her mother.

No Katie's mother does not sound like someone you would 'play around' with. What do you think makes her that way? Is she upset about their living situation? Katie definitely looks to her dad for warmth and comnfort.
